Preparing Your Business Plan Important Note: Investors may love your idea but they are going to make their investment decision based on how you propose to execute that idea. Information that you present in your business plan. If you present a poorly written and constructed business plan it reflects on your own thinking about the viability of your project. In effect, your failure to present the investor with a first class plan is a message that you don’t believe in it yourself or you would have spent the time and money to create a first rate presentation. A quality plan can’t be written quickly. Generally, most people do not have the expertise and know how to write a business plan properly. However, if you cannot afford professional help; you are better off writing it yourself than paying for a cheap plan or using one of the software applications. If you really believe in the viability of your idea and project, get professional help. If not to write it, than to critique it when it is done. I can immediately tell the effort and quality of a business plan. If I see that you have put a great effort into the plan I will read it. Send me a document that is the best it can be. Private Placement Memorandum / Subscription Agreement A business plan is a sales document with no associated legal requirements . A PPM - Private Placement Memorandum is a legal document that you can be held responsible both civil and criminal for the truthfulness and completeness of its contents. When you give an investor a PPM it carries the implication that the representations you are making are truthful. Remember, the investor does not know you so handing them a PPM document v. a business plan lends a great deal of credibility to what you are representing. Also, keep in mind that you can’t take any investor money without first providing them with a PPM and Subscription Agreement. So, you have every reason to prepare it immediately after completing your business plan.
