Angel Investors
Angel InvestorA professional Angel Investor is a single source investor that is willing and capable of providing all the capital you are seeking to raise as oppose to a group of small angel investors. Angel Investors are very sophisticated individuals who invest their own money. Though they do invest in start ups, it is the rare exception not the rule. They generally look for companies that have been operating for several years and can demonstrate that a capital infusion will dramatically increase their business revenues and earnings. This type of investor will almost always require that the entrepreneur give up control of the company, their ideas, patents, products, etc. There are rare exceptions to this rule. The professional investor will always attempt to retain the ability to take over a company and protect their investment. This typically results in the entrepreneur being fired. To be successful in raising capital from professional investors, whether venture capitalist or an angel investor you need a great idea, a first-rate business plan and as much as 20% of the money in the business must be your money. All professional investors will require that you have “skin in the game”. You also need a very provable track record of success in the specific area that you are operating in. If you can’t meet these conditions there is virtually no chance to successfully raise capital from large investors.
